Record Snowfall

Okay, no kiddos in these pictures, just wanted to show those readers of the blog who aren't in the teeth of "Arctic Blast 2008" just how much snow we got here in the great NW.

We set a record snowfall in Portland and at one point, Tara cast her eyes towards the heavens and implored Old Man Winter to stop with the snow. It didn't work. It snowed another 2 inches in spite of Tara's pleas.

So here's photographic evidence of the snow show.

Unbelievable... more snow and ice

Today we got out in the snow again and found we couldn't get far. Our gate is frozen shut with a thick layer of ice.

Blowing bubbles even though it is freezing cold outside. Adele just goes with the flow.

Anders could walk on the ice and not break through to the 8 inches of snow beneath.

The thing about 2 year olds

is that you think you can leave them for just a couple minutes to do an activity, but you really can't. Anders was making Christmas ornaments for his cousins and somehow the marker became a lipstick.

Too big for the bassinet

Babysit?

I asked Anders to keep Adele occupied while I ran to the bathroom before we loaded everyone in the car.

We are looking more and more alike

All smiles

Adele is 11 weeks old and she gets happier with each passing week. She coos and even has the start of a giggle!

The Christmas Photo

This was not an easy task. Anders was not interested in the least to sit on a strange person's lap even if it was Santa. He cried in line several times and as any good mother would do, I bargained with him. Offering up a sucker, his red binky and chance to play at the other end of the mall, I at least kept him inside the roped off lanes. We waited for what seemed like forever. The kid ahead of us told Anders that he had a lot of "experience" (he was about 5) and that there was nothing to be afraid of. Anders persisted with his pleas to go home, go outside, and go potty because he was scared. I know he will be in therapy later in life because of my insistence that we get the santa-lap photo. But I can live with that, we got the shot! The santa was really nice to Anders and talked to him for a while convincing him to sit on his lap. (again, bad mom) I got really excited and jumped behind the photographer to get their attention and encourage smiles. Then it happened, Anders lost his resolve and burst into tears. I realized I was fanatical and needed to be slapped, so I rushed over there to give in and tell him that this was stupid, we could go home. But as I was getting there, Santa had his attention. He must have convinced him to be brave because he sat there, looked at the camera and stopped crying. Adele didn't flinch.

Later that night Will asked him about the event. Anders told him that a lady took his picture with a big camera. Will asked what he thought about Santa and Anders looked up, smiled and said, "Dad, Santa is a nice guy."

Snow Day too!

What should we do in the Snow?

Snow tastes like magic rainbows to kids.

Snow!

Portland got blanketed with snow yesterday. It added up to a little more than three inches of happiness for Anders and the rest of us.
