Anniversary Road Trip

It's been four years! To celebrate we decided to hit the road and take in some Oregon scenic spots.
Day One: We drove south during Anders' morning nap and landed in Silver Falls State Park for a vigorous hike and lunch. Vigorous only because neither one of us is use to hiking straight up out of a canyon with 28 pounds of kid and pack on our backs. Lunch was awesome at the lodge and an elderly volunteer came to our table to chat. She asked Anders if he would like a special treat. We all laughed when the baby babble that came out of his mouth sounded just like, "what is it". We stayed in Sisters that night.

Anders loved the waterfall.

Awestruck
Anders' excitement wore off and we had to make up games to keep him happy.

Peek-a-boo!
Day two: We woke up in Sisters and headed towards our next destination, Crystal Crane Hot Springs. We passed through Burns on our way and stopped at this little park for a mid-afternoon snack. Anders wasn't the biggest fan of the hot springs.

Super slide in a park in Burns, OR.

Lots of belly laughs filled our days.

Give me food.

Day three: The drive north to Maupin from Burns was absolutely beautiful. We drove through the John Day Fossil Beds/Painted Hills and stopped at the Condon Paleontology Center Museum for a quick geology lesson. Anders had a blast in the kids' area and so did we. We drove from there to Maupin and stayed on the Deschutes River. This was the highlight of the trip. The food was excellent, the scenary gorgeous, the wine tasty and the beds comfy.

Anders kept banging the magnifying glass on the chair which made a lot of racket. I was a little embarrassed when we were asked to make him stop. Apparently those do not moonlight as drumsticks.

Are we there yet?

Walking on a slope is harder than I thought.

This is how a romantic evening, sitting on the balony, sipping wine, watching the sun go down looks like when you have kids.

A door on the air conditioning unit, some travel size shampoo, a cork and a little ingenuity and you have yourself an activity to keep you busy for more than ten minutes.
